I am not even sure if they play any role storywise. God forbid there happen to be 2 enemies in the room, only luck can save you.Īllies keep blathering exposition as if anybody is paying attention, with the pace the game is aiming for, you need to stand still every time anyone talks cause if you run the sound drops off very fast.Īnd the random backstory cutscenes of NPCs after defeating a boss just seem very goofy. Once again an abundance of loot and inventory management, i just picked the 2 weapons i wanted and sell everything else without even looking at it, i can't be bothered every fucking time 300 items clogging up my inventory.Īnd encounters in tight spaces is just unbearable. Considering how fast paced the combat is, a random spear boy is camping behind a rock and the moment he sees the air ripple before you appear, he charges and unblockable and blindsides you out of nowhere with barely any time to react.Īlso, some walls you can't climb up to despite visually seeming easily possible, which was really dumb and instead you need to take a long detour to get to the place you were aiming for. Never mind that they spelled "Chi" as Qi in the subtitles but kept pronouncing it as "chi".Īlso, ambushes in this game are utter crap. I generally have a strong dislike towards Chinese culture for some reason (i absolutely hate the sound of the chinese language, but am totally fine with Korean or Japanese), every Chinese TV Show i attempted to watch had "something" that kept bringing me out of it (i honestly can't tell you what it is, it wasn't the audio) and the same happened in game, terms like "General of Man" and "Yellow Heaven" or "Azure Heaven" just piss me off and i could tell just from these that the setting was most likely China. I wasn't aware the events are placed in China (i found out later). Then the dialogue is almost always a different flavor of "oh my lord you are so strong, all the glory is yours, take it you GREAT GREAT warrior, thank heavens you were here otherwise we would have been doomed!". In Wo Long (as well as Nioh games) the boss moves / jumps / screams like an overactive baby, they either scream, laugh or talk some nonsense and the camera is going wild not to mention the bloat that takes over your screen with how overworked the boss designs seem. Since you brought up Dark Souls, let's take an example, a cutscene in DS is most likely you slowly entering a new area looking around, then a cut to the boss that slowly notices you and prepares for battle as they come into full view, usually without any dialogue. The cutscenes also feel really goofy in the way events take place. The dialogue is indeed horrendous and i struggle not to cringe every time anybody talks. I am about to go on a rant but i will try to contain myself as much as possible. No low effort submissions spam/irrelevant content falls under this as well.
